"Do you think they're even plausible to follow in our society?"-Absolutely not at this point. Is it free will then ?īrave New World is really a book that makes you think.Īlthough my feelings about the Brave New World are very mixed.

Are they happy ? Technically, the Omega want to work in factories (because they were taught to). Is it ethical to bio-engineer and induce people into liking and doing special things ? Like in BNW, the Omega actually like their job, because that's what they were trained to do. There's a place for debate, while in 1984 there isn't much.Ī few months I had a 3 hours-long discussion with two friends about the book. I know some people who actually support the society of BNW, since they prefer to be dumb and happy. It's really hard to tell why exactly is that society bad, except for a gut-feeling that makes you know it's wrong. Even the workers are happy with their job, because they've been raised to. In Brave New World, it's a lot more subtile. Then you are left with the hope that the proletariat might do something.

The evil government oppresses the people, some of them rebel and have hope of overthrowing it. 1984 was really good, but too straight-forward for me. It's my favorite dystopia, right before 1984.
